We're Made for Music

On March 12th, the Ackerman Academy students put together and performed at the A Walk On The Timeline Fundraiser Concert at The Place to be Cafe in Canby.

The event was charged with electricity and the feeling of community was undeniable as you looked around the cafe.  The turnout for this night was amazing, so many people showed up to support these students that standing room was limited. There were phenomenal performances from the students who are a part of the Ackerman Academy music program, Ackerman Academy staff, and the amazing instructor and Grammy Nominated Singer/Songwriter, Ellen Whyte.
Thanks to grants from the Canby Education Foundation and the Clackamas County Arts Alliance, Ackerman brought in Whyte for a second time.  Ellen did an outstanding job working with, encouraging, and challenging the students to go beyond what they imagined they could do.  We loved seeing the students grow, develop their skills, and become more confident in themselves. The school also received a generous donation of musical instruments and sound equipment to make this program such a success.  A special shout out to The Place to be Cafe for hosting the performance as a part of their "Mission Possible," event series, and 25 percent of the profits earned during the performance was donated to continue the arts at Ackerman.  Thank you!

"Programs like this are extremely important to us high school kids," student Haley Medford said. "A lot of us don't know where we're going after high school and we all have doubts about our future. I think experiences like this will stick in our brains for a very long time and help us decide what we want to do with our lives. Programs like this help us realize our full potential."

They definitely put on one AMAZING show and couldn't be more proud of the Ackerman Academy students!
